Externship Program

The externship program connects CDM alumni with students who want to learn about a specific career field. The program will allow a CDM undergraduate student who is considering a possible career in technology to shadow an alumnus in his/her workplace.

The selected students will join their sponsors in their workplace for a day to be arranged in the month of April.

Externships are offered by CDM alumni working for companies primarily in the Chicagoland area. However, there might be some occasional opportunities outside Chicago. Externships will be available in various IT career fields. The listing of externship opportunities will be available online soon.

Through the externship program, selected CDM students will be able to get an insider's view of their career choice by experiencing the day-to-day activities of their sponsors. Students will be able to discuss specific jobs and careers with alumni and their colleagues.

By sharing their professional expertise and knowledge, alumni will receive the satisfaction of knowing that they helped CDM students decide about their future careers, and that they introduced bright and motivated students to their career field.

Program Details for Alumni

• Complete the registration form
• Applicant information will be sent to alumni for review in late February
• One day field experience conducted in April

The information you provide will be used to create the externship profile. Your personal information will be kept confidential, only the anonymous description of the externship will be posted online and students will be able to browse the opportunities and select the one(s) closer to their career field of interest.

Program Details for Students

• One day field experience conducted in April
• Application and letter of interest required for students
• Open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors with minimum GPA of 2.5 and 80 credit hours

Important Dates

• Deadline for alumni volunteers to submit application - January 25, 2010
• Deadline for students to apply for externship - February 15, 2010
• Students notified of on externship - March 12, 2010
• Information session for selected students (required to participate) - TBD
• Externship experience - April 2010
• Wrap up session for students - May 2010
