Emilia is a lecturer at the College of Computing and Digital Media at DePaul University and an experienced researcher/software engineer. She has a BA/MA in English Literature/Linguistics, Sofia University, Bulgaria and a PhD in Computer Science, DePaul University. Her research interests are in Natural Language Processing and Bioinformatics. She has been employed as a research scientist for several years at the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health and has been involved in a number of research projects focusing on Information Extraction and Data Mining from biomedical texts. Previously she has worked for a number of successful start-ups developing software for various domains including medical image archiving, web-hosting / domain name registration, and online travel.
