Double Majors
Just one DePaul CDM major isn't enough? Double majors are available for CDM undergraduates. This page features information on how CDM students can work to complete two undergraduate majors at the school.

CDM Double Majors

How obtain a double major when both majors are within CDM?

  • Satisfy all of the requirements for the first major.
  • Satisfy all of the requirements for the second major. Eight 300-level CDM major field courses must be taken for the second major that are not already counted the first major.

Clarifications for CDM Double Majors

Major field courses are the courses required for one of these Undergraduate CDM majors:

  • Computer Graphics and Motion Technology (CGMT)
  • Computer Science (CSC)
  • E-Commerce Technology (ECT)
  • Interactive Media (IM)
  • Information Systems (IS)
  • Network Technologies (NT)

Major field courses are not Liberal Studies Courses or Open Electives.

Major field courses counting for the second major don't need to have the course prefix of the major. For example, IM 310 is a major field course for E-Commerce, but it does not have the prefix IM.

  • Open electives are a not requirement for either the first or second major. They are a university requirement to insure that a graduating student has taken at least 192 credit hours. Typically a student earning a double major will not have any free elective. This is because courses that would have been counted as open electives count for the second major instead.

  • The CDM 300-level elective counting for the first major cannot also count for the second major.

  • As stated in Exception 1 above, a second Senior Capstone Course is not required for the second major. A second Senior Capstone Course can count as one of the eight 300-level major field for the second major if it is a different course than the Senior Capstone Course for the first major. However, some Senior Capstone Courses from different major fields are crosslisted, so they are not different courses. For example, CSC 394 and IS 376 cannot both be taken because they are crosslisted and not actually different courses.
Exceptions for Double Majors Requirements:

If the Senior Capstone Course has been completed for the first major, a second Senior Capstone Course need not be taken for the second major.

These 200-level courses can count as one of the eight 300-level major field courses:

GPH 211GPH 212, and GPH 250 if the second major is Computer Graphics and Motion Technology.

CSC 212 if the second major is Computer Science.

ECT 270 if the second major is E-Commerce Technology.

GPH 211 and GPH 212 if the second major is Interactive Media

ECT 270 can be counted as 300 level course for NT and ECT for second major.
