Grading

Homework assignments (25%)
There will be five assignments given in weeks 1 5. Each is worth 5% and will be graded out of 50 points.
Note: ALL homework assignments describe the minimum requirements for the project. If you fully meet these requirements you will get full points. However if a particular assignment is easy for you, then you are encouraged to go above and beyond and try something a little harder. All homework assignments will be assigned on Tuesday nights and are due 9 days later on Thursday night by midnight. You are strongly encouraged to try to complete the assignment prior to class the following Tuesday.

Hints on your assignments: We will discuss this in class; however for SE350 you will be programming larger projects than you may have done before. You must write your code incrementally as in: code-test, code-test, code-test and not CODE everything and then Test everything. I will NOT debug code for you if you have followed this second approach.
Late Policy: Turn in your homework on Thursday by midnight to receive full points. You will lose 10 points per day for each day you turn your assignment in late. No homework will be accepted after 5.45pm on Tuesdays (i.e. 2 weeks after it was assigned).
Midterm exam (20%)
Final exam See detailed syllabus for exemption rules (25%)
Project (25%)
The project is a core component of this class. You can expect to put significant effort into the project but should be able to have fun with it and also learn lots of good OO programming skills.
Class participation (5%)
This is an undergraduate class and students are expected to attend class most of the time. Class time will include hands-on activities and also visits to the lab which everyone is expected to participate in.

Changes to Syllabus

This syllabus is subject to change as necessary during the quarter. If a change occurs, it will be thoroughly addressed during class, posted under Announcements in D2L and sent via email.

Online Course Evaluations

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course content to meet the learning goals of the course and the academic needs of the students. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
