Summary

This capstone course integrates the skills and techniques learned in previous IT Project Management courses. Through in depth analysis of case studies and readings, along with presentations by outside speakers experienced in IT Portfolio Management and IT strategy, students use their skills from previous IT project management courses to solve IT strategic and IT portfolio problems. The course starts with formulating the IT strategy from the corporate strategy. Then the IT Portfolio of initiatives, projects and assets is built and fine tuned. By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

? establish the portfolio foundation through strategic planning
? evaluate strategic objectives through using decision support systems
? build the potential projects pool
? determine candidate projects
? develop and make a candidate project presentation
? prioritize candidate projects
? implement the initial project portfolio
? establish and implement the ongoing portfolio
? evaluate project and portfolio performance

Assignments

30% Homework -- lowest grade dropped from averaging
30% Presentation/Term Paper-- due week 6
30% Final Exam-- due week 11 Take Home
10% Participation -- attendance/makeup (class sessions)*
or discussion forum participation (DL)**.

Total 100%

*In-class students earn participation credit by "attending" or participating during the entire class session or through "makeup" by watching the recorded session that was missed and then contributing to its associated discussion forum within the stated time limit.

In-class students use an IClicker for in class exercises which are available for rental at the DePaul bookstore and for purchase at various online facilities.

**Online students earn participation credit by posting their insights, thoughts, concerns, etc. on the associated weekly discussion forum after reading the required assignments and watching the weekly lecture. Students should be conversing with one another to get credit. To get credit == postings must be done within the posted time limit.

Online Course Evaluations

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course content to meet the learning goals of the course and the academic needs of the students. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
