Summary

This course is for information systems professionals who are involved in planning and implementing large scale, cross-functional enterprise systems. Students will examine technology efforts that change how people perform their tasks and how firms can manage the implementation so people accept and positively embrace the changes the new technology brought. Students gain insights into the importance and the processes of social and emotional intelligence in leading organizational change efforts. Through case studies and exercises students gain insights into the elements of successful implementations. This culminates in analyzing change management plans and the results. Emphasis is placed on developing mechanisms for effectively communicating and training all affected people.

By the end of the course the student will be able to:

Understand the change mechanisms for individuals
Analyze organizational need for change management of IT projects
Analyze a change management plan
Determine the appropriate leadership needs for a enterprise system
Determine the appropriate leadership based on the situation found
Determine the appropriate actions of various change agents
Analyze the unique needs for a global enterprise systems implementation
Understand the mechanisms available to teams for implementing enterprise systems
Understand the role of training and communication in implementing enterprise systems

*In-class students earn participation credit by

"attendance" participating during the entire class session

or by posting their insights, thoughts, concerns, etc. on the weekly discussion forum after reading the required assignments and watching the weekly lecture. Students should be conversing with one another to get credit. To get credit the postings must be made during the discussion forum open period

Late Submissions

Late Submissions are always penalized unless prior arrangements are made through email with instructor. However, on some assignments late submission is NOT allowed.





Prerequisites

IS 430 or PM 430 or completion of foundation or core phase.



Teaching Method

A combination of teaching methods will be used (lectures, class exercises, group presentations, etc).



Case Study Contribution Required



This course will make use of texts, handouts, current articles, business methodologies, lectures, and case studies to present a picture of the project management landscape. In particular, we will devote some time each week to analyzing case studies of pertinent IT project related issues and problems. In-class students are expected to analyze these case studies before coming to class and in class to contribute to the discussion on that case.



DL section students can contribute by posting their contributions to that week's discussion forum.

Online Course Evaluations

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
