Ruby on Rails Program
An 8-week in-depth program covering Web development using Ruby on Rails. Topics include Rails basics; Ruby fundamentals; Rails installation; Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture; ActiveRecord and database migration; ActionController, ActionView, REST and ActiveResource; test-driven development; application security; deployment and scaling; and Ajax support.

Applicants must have a solid programming background (at least two years of professional software development experience is required) as well as basic knowledge of Web technologies.

Classes meet on Monday & Wednesday evenings (5:45pm-9pm) and in the mornings (9am-12:15pm) of approximately half the Saturdays in the program. Location is DePaul's Loop Campus at 243 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago.

The Ruby on Rails Program is an accredited course of DePaul University, which follows the quarter system (as opposed to the semester system).

Credit hours: 6 undergraduate
The credit hours are awarded to those who successfully complete the program's academic requirements. Course requirements include programming, design and connectivity assignments. No midterm or final exam is conducted.

Reading materials for certificate programs consist of textbooks and supplementary handouts. Textbook readings are considered preparatory in nature and are typically assigned prior to lectures; supplementary handouts are frequently distributed in class to provide additional information.

Full payment of tuition must be received by the Institute for Professional Development office before the start of the program. The tuition fee for this program is not included in the university's tuition package for full-time undergraduate students. The university's refund policy allows a return of 100% of tuition (minus a separate $25 registration fee) if the student drops the Ruby on Rails Program by February 3, 2014.
Textbooks are a separate purchase to be made by students.
Fees are payable by check made out to DePaul University, or by credit card. For credit card payment, print out and complete the Payment by Credit Card Form.
Applicants who wish to use the university's DePEPER Plan (DePaul University's Extension Plan for Employer Reimbursement) must return the DePEPER Plan Application to the Institute for Professional Development Office. Submitting this application to any other DePaul office may delay the student's registration process. Information about this plan, along with an application form, is found here.

Application & Registration Procedure:
The first step is to apply for admission using the Institute for Professional Development’s online application; or, to apply via fax, mail, or in person, print out and complete the Application Form. Upon admission, the Institute office will contact the prospective student with registration information and instructions.
