Ruby on Rails Program

An 8-week in-depth program covering Web development using Ruby on Rails. Topics include Rails basics; Ruby fundamentals; Rails installation; Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture; ActiveRecord and database migration; ActionController, ActionView, REST and ActiveResource; test-driven development; application security; deployment and scaling; and Ajax support.

Admission Requirements:
Applicants must have a solid programming background (at least two years of professional software development experience is required) as well as basic knowledge of Web technologies.

Dates & Location: Winter Quarter 2015

Application deadline: December 17, 2014
Tuition deadline: January 2, 2015
Classes begin: January 19, 2015
Classes end: March 11, 2015​​​​

Classes meet on Monday & Wednesday evenings (5:45pm-9pm) and in the morning (9am-12:15pm) on approximately half of the Saturdays at DePaul's Loop Campus at 243 S. Wabash Avenue, Chicago.

DePaul University reserves the right to cancel any program prior to that program's first class meeting.
Course Credit:
The Ruby on Rails Program is an accredited course of DePaul University, which follows the quarter system (as opposed to the semester system).

Credit hours: 6 undergraduate
The credit hours are awarded to those who successfully complete the program's academic requirements. Course requirements include programming, design and connectivity assignments. No midterm or final exam is conducted.

Reading materials for certificate programs consist of textbooks and supplementary handouts. Textbook readings are considered preparatory in nature and are typically assigned prior to lectures; supplementary handouts are frequently distributed in class to provide additional information.

Full payment of tuition must be received by the Institute for Professional Development office before the start of the program. The university's refund policy allows a return of 100% of tuition (minus a separate $25 registration fee) if the student drops the Ruby on Rails Program by February 2, 2015.

Textbooks are a separate purchase to be made by students.

Payment Options:
Fees are payable by check made out to DePaul University, or by credit card. For credit card payment, print out and complete the Payment by Credit Card Form.

Applicants who are eligible for a tuition reimbursement program offered by their employer and are interested in deferring their tuition payment using the university's Employer Tuition Deferral Plan, formerly known as the DePEPER Plan, must return the Employer Tuition Deferral Plan application to the Institute for Professional Development Office. Submitting this application to any other DePaul office may delay the student's registration process. Information about this plan, along with an application form, is found here​.

Applicants who wish to use the university's In-Term Payment Plan or a third-party billing arrangement should contact the Institute for Professional Development office at (312) 362-6282 for details.

Application & Registration Procedure: 
The first step is to apply for admission using the Institute for Professional Development's online application; or, to apply via fax, mail, or in person, print out and complete the Application Form. Upon admission, the Institute office will contact the prospective student with registration information and instructions. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
