    General Overview
    The primary area of focus for the GIS Specialist will be to identify and map ILEC and Electric Utility distribution poles and related network assets including underground routes, efficiently design outdoor composite DAS networks and to assist and train field personnel in the operation and use of internal GIS software and tools.

    Detailed Responsibilities

    • Create, modify and edit new designs from initial proposal through the completed proposal, up to the point of sale and implementation.
    • Participate in proposal and implementation calls as required.
    • Assist with the promotion of the network designs from proposal through implementation, gain proficiency on the implementation process as it related to the GIS and GIS database that will be used to track and manage networks through implementation.
    • Maintain documentation and network layering information in an efficient manner for access and analysis
    • Make recommendations, test and assist with developing procedures as the GIS tool or other software evolves
    • Quickly gain in-depth experience and knowledge of specified GIS tools, which may include home grown systems, ArcView, Ezri, GoogleEarth / Google Maps, DeLorme suite of tools (Streets and Trips, Xmap,) Map Info, Bing Maps.
    • Gain a working knowledge and understanding of the difference between utility distribution, transmission, street lighting and traffic control infrastructure.
    • Demonstrate ability to learn other aspects of wireline and wireless network fundamentals including propagation characteristics, link budgets, basic hardware and component operation.
    • Learn basic working knowledge of fundamental Telecommunications Standards and Practices including but not limited to National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, GO-95 and OSHA.
    • Process architecture using a combination of network deployment tracking tools including customized database applications, SQL and the entire compliment of MS Office tools.
    • Manage and prioritize assigned tasks in order to meet deadlines while also highlighting risks and implementing contingency plans and communicate as early as possible, resource gaps or delays.

    • Suggest, test and assist with developing procedures as the various GIS tools evolve.
    • Participate in proposal and implementation calls as required.

    • Manage all OSP Data collection, collation, distribution and design validation
    • Gain proficiency in Network cost estimating and deployment planning; when appropriate perform a “cradle to grave” approach (GIS design through cost estimate)
    • Continue to produce and archive composite designs for all existing, on air networks and validate the designs from as built drawings.


    • Education: BS Degree or advanced degree in Geographic Information Systems or equivalent
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Visio and PowerPoint and also with Google Earth and related mapping programs
    • Hold the highest standards of integrity in all dealings with others
    • Thrive under pressure and possesses a sense of urgency about assigned projects

    The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC) Internship Program is providing an opportunity to students who are interested in learning how to be successful in the security field and gain truly marketable skills that will prepare them for a successful career in cybersecurity.     FS-ISAC is seeking students interested in a part-time, 10-12 week internship opportunity in the cybersecurity field.     KaZoom Kids Books publishes interactive, multicultural children’s Books for ages 3 to 8. We are a dynamic, creative startup company whose mission is to bring greater diversity to children’s literature. KaZoom is launching its initial line up children’s book apps this April. This position of Book Design and Promotion Intern will help us bring our next wave of books to life. We are into the “WOW” of storytelling. And because we are launching this Spring, we will also be into the “WOW” of event promotions throughout the city.

    Job Description
    The intern will take the story and illustrations of a book and bring the project to life with audio, interactive action and where needed animation.  You will learn our proprietary software to create the interactive portions, and use the Adobe Creative Suite of products to fuel your other creative choices. Your goal is to make a child say, WOW, when he reads and experiences your book design.

    Additionally, we will host live events throughout the city over the 10 weeks of the internship. You will participate in the design, setup and implementation of these events. Everyone at the company will participate in the live events.  This is where children and their parents will be able to experience our stories and so much more. And, you’ll be able to see first-hand what children love or don’t love about the books to help improve your designs.

    This is a part-time, unpaid internship of 15 to 20 hours per week for 10 weeks.  There will be a $500 stipend at the completion of the internship.

    Skills Needed
    We are looking for a student who is majoring in the Digital Arts or Animation. You must be willing to learn to use our proprietary software. Training is provided. You must also be familiar with Photoshop and other Adobe Creative Suite Products or another animation software. Also, you should have an interest in children’s books. Must be personable and able to communicate well with other team members. You will work with the illustrator, project manager and events manager. In this position, you must be as comfortable talking to 5 and 6 year olds in the field as you are behind your computer.

    General Summary
    Under general supervision, the Network Engineer, Associate will assist with the installation and support of data and communications infrastructure, including LAN/WAN/Voice systems. This position will rely on established guidelines and instructions to perform daily job functions.

    • Work with trades and contractors as necessary to install, troubleshoot, and repair structured cabling.
    • Participate in projects as assigned.  
    • Seek opportunities to streamline current processes.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technology field and/or minimum1 year of data networking and telecommunications experience.
    • Basic knowledge of basic networking standards, protocols, principles, and services as applied in modern, enterprise, production networks.  

    Preferred Requirements

    • Basic knowledge of open source software, command line scripting and telecommunications.

    What is the position?  The Technology Associate role is part of our rotational program that caters to each new-hire’s interests and strengths, and is unlike any other opportunity currently in the market.

    Digital Media Academy is now accepting Instructor and TA applications for the 2017 summer season! Founded in 2002, DMA operates at 20+ locations in North America, including University of Chicago and Northwestern University, and encourages students ages 6-17 to pursue paths in film, animation, game design, programming, app development, engineering, and more.

    DMA staff members will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in STEM teaching. Undergrad and grad students may apply for both TA and Instructor roles, and a completed degree is not required. Experience working with youth is a plus. Courses are assigned on a weekly basis and run Monday - Friday for the duration of the two back-to-back programs, June 26 - August 4.  This is a 40 hr/wk summer position, however instructional staff members are only required to commit for the specific weeks they agree to work.
