Courier 12 Screenwriting Conference presents: A Conversation with Emmy-winning Writer Lena Waithe

    About this Event

Emmy-winning writer Lena Waithe speaks with SCA faculty members Jess King and Fatou Samba.

With four TV series currently on air: Twenties (BET), Boomerang (BET), The Chi (Showtime) and You Ain’t Got These (Quibi), Lena Waithe is one of the busiest showrunners in Hollywood. In 2017, Waithe became the first Black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for her work on Master of None. In addition to TV, Waithe has written and produced the feature Queen & Slim and produced The Forty-Year Old Version. Since transitioning into writing, her scripts have trended on The Black List and placed in screenwriting competitions, including the Austin Film Festival. Fatou earned a BA in Film & Video Directing from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA in Screenwriting at DePaul University. After working in development in Los Angeles, Fatou has now returned to DePaul where she teaches at the School of Cinematic Arts.
