Summary

This course will give you some 'real-world' experience in developing a fairly large software project in a team environment. We will go through all the major phases/activities of development, and in addition to delivering a working deployed application on-time you will also deliver all the associated documentation (Project Plan, Requirements Document, Design Document, Test Plan and Procedures and Deployment Plan). To this end, students will be placed in project groups, and will build, and present, a comprehensive software project over the ten weeks of the quarter.

Students will be assessed on their understanding, use, and proper techniques of the following course topics:
Preliminary concept and technology overview.
Project group planning.
Formal software requirements development, including liaison and adversarial relationship issues between developers and clients.
System software design.
Sroject team management, including group-dynamics concepts.
Administrative web site maintenance for project groups.
Time management, projection, and log-keeping.
Software testing.
HCI studies, *required* when HCI majors are present.
Project documentation development.
Backups and version control.
Presentation skills under pressure requiring strong technical preparation.
Programming of a robust, running, software system that meets the original specifications.

Online Course Evaluations

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
