Summary

An intermediate course in problem solving, algorithms and programming. Programming skills are further strengthened through more complex and larger programming assignments. We will see different areas of computer science, such as client/server applications, graphical user interfaces, and working with databases. Classes and object oriented programming are motivated and introduced.

Grading

Lab attendance and exercises: 5%, Assignments (homework) : 35%, Midterm: 30%, Final exam: 30%.

CSC 241 Introduction to Computer Science I


Topics

Review of Namespaces, Scope; Classes, Object-Oriented Programming Graphical User Interfaces, Recursion. Searching and Sorting, Internet Application Development, Database Development, Python versus C++/Java

Online Course Evaluations

The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
