Summary

An intermediate course in problem solving, algorithms and programming. Programming skills are further strengthened through more complex and larger programming assignments. The assignments will also be used to introduce different Computer Science areas (e.g. a Client/Server application for the Distributed Systems area). Classes and object oriented programming are motivated and introduced.

The grade breakdown will be as follows:

There will be no lab during midterm week. Also, your lowest lab score will not be counted.

The grading scale will be determined by a curve. The cutoffs will be no higher than the following: 90-100, A; 80-89.99, B; 70-79.99, C; 60-69.99, D; 0-59.99, F. Plusses and minuses will be given at the high/low ends of each grade range (no A+'s or D-'s).

Late submissions:

Late lab assignment submissions will not be accepted. A student will be allowed one late homework assignment submission during the quarter. The late submission will be counted only if it is turned in before a sample solution to the assignment is discussed during lecture.

When tallying your final grade, I will drop your lowest lab score. All homework scores will count toward your final grade.

Policies on working together:

Lab assignments: You may work together in groups of 2 or 3. Please place a comment at the beginning of the file you turn in stating your name and any other students in your group.

Homework assignments: You must work alone! You may not copy any code from another student (in the current course or past course) or from the Web.

Online Course Evaluations

They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
