Summary

This course is intended to give students the knowledge and skills to run a successful mocap shoot in a studio-paced environment, and the wisdom to best incorporate mocap into their own projects.  It will provide an expanded view of the animation industry and focus on adding a powerful tool to your repertoire.

Grading

Assignments are 50% of your final grade.  A Final Project is the other 50% of your final grade.

You must score a passing mark on your final project in order to pass the class.  Much of this class is hands-on or demonstrated with the hardware.  As such, although attendance is not figured into your final grade it is likely very influential.  Attendance is only absolutely mandatory during the final week when we'll screen the final projects.

Work is expected to be turned in on time.  For every day late, 10% will be deducted from the grade it receives.  However, if you’re having trouble with an assignment and come to my Office Hours for assistance, a two-day grace will be given.

A:            90-100%

B:            80-89%

C:            70-79%

D:            60-69%

F:            0-59%

Equipment

I’m very excited to announce that we’ll be using a brand new mocap system this quarter.  This system’s capabilities far exceed that of the previous system.  That said, something to keep in mind…

We have only one system, and it’s mobile.  Please be aware of other students’ needs when reserving the system.  I highly advise working in groups when possible, although you must submit your own original work.

And please, please, please be careful with it!  The hardware is insured, although you may be responsible for the deductible should anything happen to it.  But if anything happens to the system and it becomes unusable, the entire class will be without it.

Changes to Syllabus

This syllabus is subject to change as necessary during the quarter. If a change occurs, it will be thoroughly addressed during class, posted under Announcements in D2L and sent via email.

Online Course Evaluations

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course content to meet the learning goals of the course and the academic needs of the students. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation. Students complete the evaluation online in CampusConnect.
