A five-week intensive online certificate program on creating a short-form television program

The Web Series Development Program is designed to explore the process of development and screenwriting of an independent short-form television series, otherwise known as web series. It will be taught, in Spanish, in a workshop format based on the operation of a professional writers room. We will focus on pitching ideas, script development and the revision of the different roles that make the writers room a creative and dynamic environment. The program also includes three master classes (in English) with important faculty and industry professionals.

Upon successful completion of this course, student will:

  • Recognize the structure and organization of a typical writers room of a television show
  • Develop original short-form television series, either as a showrunner, story editor or staff writer
  • Create Pitch Briefs, Season Outlines and Episodes for a television series created by themselves or one of their classmates

Students should note that this course will be in a Workshop format. That means that you must submit on time your assignments so showrunners may read and critique them. It also means that you must participate in session discussions of your classmates’ projects. We will function as closely to a Writers Room as we can, and that entails enthusiastic participation and offering constructive criticism, even if it’s not your own work. If you are not willing to do this, you must reconsider taking this course.

Students should have access to a stable desktop or laptop computer, running either Mac OS or Windows and equipped with a webcam, to complete the coursework. A reliable Internet connection to participate actively with video and audio is needed. Students will be asked to install some screenwriting software and must have full administrator rights to their computer in order to do so.
