SoD Workshop - "Alexa, how do you know what to say?" with Phillip Hunter

    Description

Join us for a small hands-on workshop to learn about UX voice technology! What is UX voice technology? Think Alexa.

    Who is Phillip Hunter?

Phillip Hunter is a technology product design leader with over 20 years of successful experience. He’s played pivotal roles in consumer voice and multimodal applications at Microsoft Cortana, Amazon Alexa, and four start-ups, most recently Pulse Labs. Phillip also led product design efforts for Amazon Web Services and other enterprise software products. Phillip is passionate about how teams work, how to understand, influence, and create complex systems, and the little details of product design that make big differences.

Phillip loves living, creating, and working in Seattle. He is an active member of local and international design communities. He also fancies himself a songwriter and photographer, and a skilled maker of bad puns.

The New World of Voice and Multimodal Product UX

The recent developments in voice-driven product technology are exciting, and the opportunities are many. It presents changes that could be more disruptive than the web or mobile in the long term as well as questions around ethics, and even posthumanism. For that to happen, some of the considerations and steps require an evolution of product and design approaches. Phillip will introduce you to the key questions you need to answer, opportunities, risks, concepts you need to know, and ways to get started on crafting a successful offering. You'll learn about how to work through what you can and should offer now, why and how, and what you will be able to offer in the future.

A Memory Palace for Ghosts: Experimental Shorts BY Shayna Connelly

Filmmaking allows us to shape incomprehensible situations, make sense of the unknowable or pay tribute to the sublime. Everyday events that result in instability and threats of violence trigger ghosts that hold us captive between presence and absence. Cinema is uniquely positioned to explore the liminal states created by such hauntings. The eight films that comprise A Memory Palace for Ghosts explore hauntings in relation to traumatic events, mental illness, everyday routines, the search for truth and the aftermath of grief.
