Geographical Information Systems (Gis) for Sustainable Urban Development

An intermediate-level GIS course focusing on the application of GIS skills to real-world problems. Students as a group will conduct GIS projects that are proposed by community-based organizations (CBOs) that work towards promoting sustainability in Chicagoland. Topics include remote sensing, GPS, geocoding, hot spot detection, spatial interpolation, and network analysis. The course also explores case studies on using GIS for sustainable urban development. PREREQUISITE(S): GEO 441 or MPS 552 (GIS for Community Development). GEO 441 or MPS 552 or instructor permission is a prerequisite for this course.
