Shayna Connelly

Bio and Research Information

Shayna Connelly holds a B.A. in Linguistics from Eberhard-Karls-Universitaet Tuebingen, a B.A. in German Studies from Macalester College and an M.F.A. in film production from Columbia College Chicago. Her creative work explores hauntings, liminality and the boundaries between documentary, experimental and fiction filmmaking. Early videos screened at numerous galleries and museums including the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis. Her video short, Ladies In Search of Their Ecstasy, screened at galleries in Berlin, Paris and Vienna. Over the years she has served as UPM or AD of many award-winning shorts; been a contributing writer for Time Out Chicago with a weekly column devoted to classic films on TV and juror for the After Dark competition at the 47th Annual Chicago International Film Festival. Her most recent films on ghosts have screened at IC Docs, CIMMfest, Chicago REEL Shorts, Big Muddy Film Festival, Columbus International Film Festival, Charlotte International Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Dam Short Film Festival, the Chicago Feminist Film Festival and Athens International Film and Video Festival among many others. New City Magazine named her one of Chicago's 50 Screen Gems of 2016. Shayna is an avid reader, record collector, soapbox advocate for TV programming.
