Bio and Research Information

Emily Schumann is an award-winning independent writer/director/producer. She holds an MFA in Film and Television Directing from DePaul University, and a BA in Art and Creative Writing from Lycoming College. Her MFA thesis film ELEPHANT HIDE is beginning it's festival run. Her short film THE GIVER has screened at Door County Short Film Festival and the Patrick Lives on 2024 Film Showcase, with an honorable mention at Blackbird Film Festival. She has garnered awards for Best Director for her short film POEMS FOR SALE at the Cannes World Film Festival, and several nominations for her experimental short film PERCEPTION and narrative short film FUNERAL THEORY. She is the founder of Honeybee Film Productions, with work that strives to explore the fundamentals of what it means to be human, and creates work with the intention of inspiring, embracing hope, and fostering joy. An active producer and writer, Emily is currently developing several feature film scripts. She lives in Highland Park, Illinois with her partner Zac, her rescue dog Sadie, and her cat McKinley.
