Bio and Research Information

Casey Bennett specializes in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in healthcare, with over 20 years’ experience in data science, machine learning, and analytics. He was formerly a data scientist at several major healthcare organizations: Cigna, CVS Health, and Centerstone Research Institute (CRI). He has a PhD in informatics and computer science from Indiana University. His work focuses on artificial intelligence in healthcare, including the areas of robotics, human-robot interaction, machine learning, internet-of-things, clinical decision support, and personalized medicine. He is currently working on research projects using robotic pets for therapeutic purposes with elderly patients, development of robotic sensor systems for tracking in-home patient health, and studying social cognition through human-robot interaction to create more life-like AI devices. In his lab, they get to do cool stuff like teach robots how to play video games and make furry cuddly robot pets. In his past, he was the lead designer for Centerstone’s award-winning data warehouse and analytics platform in healthcare. He served as PI on studies on implementation of patient-reported outcome systems and AI-driven clinical decision support technology for mental health, diabetes, dementia, and other chronic illnesses. Along with publishing dozens of scientific articles, his work has been featured as part of IBM's “Smarter Planet” campaign, as a TED talk, and in international magazines like ComputerWorld and Slate. He also lived in South Korea for 4 years, so he can speak Korean.
