Kevin cofounded Ministry of Supply— a major recent success of the MIT startup ecosystem— and has gone on to advise/work with several other startups after getting a dual MBA/MEng from Stanford, including most recently Lift Aircraft (human-ridable drones as seen on Anderson Cooper). He’ll be talking about his experiences in the startup world.

After a talk/discussion at the IRL we’ll head to Sterling Food Hall for food/drinks and discussion!

Jewelry and Metals Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, students will be guided through the process of anodizing and oxidizing metals. These two methods allow bright and vibrant colors (anodization) and a weathered patina (oxidization). All materials will be provided, and students can choose to make jewelry, a speculative board game piece, or a miniature sculpture.

Biography:

Ladipo Famodu (b. 1992) is a Nigerian-American sculptor and jewelry designer based in Chicago. He is interested in kinaesthetic learning, where knowledge is exchanged through the manipulation of objects, or by moving one's body. Much of his work employs playfulness and surrealism in an attempt to undo the tethered logics of anti-blackness and modernity.

Ladipo received an MA in Design from the Sandberg Instituut (2022), and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota (2015). His work has been shown at the The Other Art Fair, South Side Community art Center, Museum of Science and Industry, Watershed Art & Ecology, Evanston Art Center, Union Street Gallery, Phantom Gallery, FOURTUNEHOUSE Art Center, Kunstkapel, and Tempel Amsterdam.

The AmAuteur Film Festival is a brand-new, genre-expansive, all-inclusive, community-oriented film festival with a focus on the new film underground. Our mission is one for the outcasts, the weirdos, the misfits, the ambitious, and the tragically underestimated pioneers of modern film language.

We’re getting back to the roots of what a festival should represent: not a competition awarding the aesthetic marvels that cost an entire year’s rent to produce, but a pure and simple time of celebration. We’re here to showcase those unique and creative filmmakers redefining the medium while having access to fewer resources, less money, less time, and/or little experience.

You’re not gonna find any A-list celebrities here. What you will find is a community of underground creators challenging the conventions of big-budget filmmaking by embracing the excitement and deeply collaborative sentiments of truly DIY, independent arts. Basically, if you’ve ever had to pull focus while holding the makeshift boom pole with an iPhone attached on the other end… we see you, and we value the work you create!

We also recognize how expensive it can be to send your film to festivals. Believe us, we don’t have that kind of money either. This is why we vow to keep our prices affordable to micro-/no-budget filmmakers everywhere, as well as ensure that every penny the festival makes goes back into the pockets of our selected filmmakers.

The 1st annual AmAuteur Film Festival will be held at DePaul University in the heart of downtown Chicago in November 2025, and will include numerous short film screening blocks, Q&As, and opportunities for networking. We can’t wait to see you there!
