IS 435 Organizational Modeling
The course explores contemporary approaches to analyzing and modeling organizational problems, processes, workflow, users and data. The emphasis is on the initial stages of analysis where the root causes of problems are identified, formulated and modeled. Students will acquire an array of modeling skills and be able to prescribe the proper modeling approach based on a variety of organizational and contextual factors. Business process modeling, management and metrics will be covered. Object-oriented and user-centered approaches will be introduced.
No purchase of textbooks is needed. The key reading materials are available online through Books 24x7 and Safari Books Online as well as D2L.

Upon completion of IS435, the students will be able to:
- Define and describe strategic opportunities for a given business organization
- Construct a business process with 5 to 10 major tasks along with their inputs and outputs
- Evaluate a given business process design with its simulation

Evaluations are a way for students to provide valuable feedback regarding their instructor and the course. Detailed feedback will enable the instructor to continuously tailor teaching methods and course
content to meet the learning goals of the course and the academic needs of the students. They are a requirement of the course and are key to continue to provide you with the highest quality of teaching. The
evaluations are anonymous; the instructor and administration do not track who entered what responses. A program is used to check if the student completed the evaluations, but the evaluation is completely
separate from the student’s identity. Since 100% participation is our goal, students are sent periodic reminders over three weeks. Students do not receive reminders once they complete the evaluation.
